The B-450 was an American-made, early Epiphone prototype for the Ripper Bass and was made in 1983 at the Kalamazoo, Michigan plant. The B-450 most likely started its life as a Gibson Grabber III and was modified as an Epiphone Ripper prototype.

The B-450 had three single-coil pickups and a covered bridge on a Grabber body with no treble horn. Like the Grabber, the B-450 also featured a maple neck with a Flying-V style headstock and "Made in the USA" stamped on the back. Unlike the Gibson Grabber, the B-450 had an open-book headstock top. The Epiphone logo on the front is the same as the Kalamazoo USA-made American Series made from 1982-1983.
