The Epiphone Ultra, introduced in 2005, is Epiphone's first and only series of chambered Les Paul guitars. The mahogany body has strategically placed hollow cavities resulting not only in a lighter guitar (about 5.5 lbs) but also a more "acoustic" sounding guitar. Additionally, there is a belly-contour on the back of the guitar. The Ultra also has a 42mm nut, as opposed to the standard 43mm width, as well as a satin finished neck. The Ultra II & III, unlike the Ultra and Ultra PRO, have a nano-mag pickup mounted to the fingerboard, mono & steroe outputs, nano-mag tone controls on the rear of the body, of which the volume control acts as an A/B switch. The Ultra III, a more updated version of the Ultra II, also came with Pro-Bucker pickups, a USB output and a chromatic tuner mounted to the bridge pickup ring. The Ultra II also came in a wider variety of colors than the Ultra, Ultra II and Ultra PRO. |
