Les Paul Numbered Models
Les Paul Main Page | All Les Paul Models
Les Paul 1, 2 & 3 These were the very first guitars made by Epiphone that used the Les Paul name. Though they had a basic body shape of a Les Paul, they were more akin to a superstrat than a Gibson Les Paul. They had bolted neck, flat tops, either H, H/H or H/S/S pickup configurations and Steinberger tremolos. They also sported the narrow open-book headstock. These guitars ran from 1985-1988 when they were replaced by a new line of carved top Epiphone Les Pauls that more closely resembled their Gibson counterparts.
The Les Paul-300 was the first Epiphone Les Paul with a carved top, though it still had a bolted-on neck, and was the entry level Les Paul in 1989. The Les Paul-100 followed in 1993 as the new entry level Les Paul for Epiphone. This was basically the same as the LP-300, only with dot inlays and no bindings. The LP-300 was ultimately discontinued in 1997, while the LP-100 is still being made today as an entry level carved top Les Paul. |
