The Epiphone Newport bass guitar was manufactured between 1961 and 1969. 1964-1966 were the peak years for the Newport. It is typical for a mid-sixties Kalamazoo plant bass to have an EB humbucker, bar bridge and Kluson 538 tuning keys. The Newport Deluxe was never shown in an Epiphone catalogue, although it was mentioned, alongside the Newport EBS.

When Epiphone changed the Newport EB-model design in 1964, the old Newport Deluxe EBD was discontined and replaced with the Embassy Deluxe, bearing the model name EBDL. The Embassy Deluxe was the only Embassy in the Epiphone Bass range and was the "Deluxe" counterpart to the Newport until it was discontinued in 1970.
